A Wedding!

Love was in the air in February!

Things are never dull here at the North Pole, that is for sure. Like other places around the world, Valentine’s Day can be very special here and this year we had more fun than ever. Two of our very beloved elves got married! YES, married!

Franziska and Jaggerstatter tied the knot on Valentine’s day following a courtship of about 20 years! Why 20 years you ask? Well, we at the North Pole live much differently and longer due to the sunny (yet frigid!) environment and clean air. That said, 20 years of courtship is more like two years elsewhere. Just the right amount of time to really get to know each other and grow together.

Franziska works here in the kitchen.  She busies herself testing and baking all sorts of delicious cake and cookie recipes. She comes from a long line of family members who found their creative flair in the kitchen! Franziska learned from the best since her family has won many awards for their decadent desserts over the years — her father was known throughout the North Pole for his molasses cookie recipe. She too, has poised herself to compete successfully in contests and has won several blue ribbons over the last two years. It was because of her baking that she met Jaggerstatter!

Jaggerstatter is one of the chief toy makers! He is also very creative and comes from a family that loves building toys from wood. He has a love for the trees we grow in our greenhouses and is easily able to identify the perfect one to make toys that delight children around the world. Sitting around a fire and carving toys by hand is one of his very favorite activities. When Jaggerstatter is not carving toys and statues, he is busy taste-testing some of the fine goods that Franziska creates in the kitchen! That is how he met his beloved Franziska. She was busy crafting a beautiful and ever-so-tasteful chocolate cherry torte one night when he was coming in from the cold. The sweet aroma of warm chocolate and the fresh cool red of the cherries was more than he could bear. Franziska saw the love in his eyes as he thoroughly enjoyed all of the flavors of the warm treat and well, history has it from there! It was really no secret to any of us here at the North Pole that the two would find themselves together.

Of course, the wedding party was beautifully dressed in rich red and gorgeous green velvet and ever so subtly adorned with bright white ostrich feathers. The weddings here at the North Pole are typically held just following dusk. The reason for this is following the ceremony, and a feast fit for a king, there is dancing! The sky is rich with color and movement from the aurora borealis; so bright and colorful there is no need for elf-made lights. And better yet, it is almost as if the aurora borealis are set to the music as the colors dance across the sky to the beat. Everyone, including Santa, loves to dance on special nights such as this! A dance of celebration for the happy couple. A dance in appreciation of the beautiful sky. A dance just to dance! On Valentine’s Day! I sure hope your February was filled with such happiness and joy.

We have two months under our belt of relaxing. As CEO of the Christmas Planning Season for 2021-2022, please let me know what you would like me to feature for books, baking, or any other fun ideas you may have.

Be good and kind, we’ll see you next time!
